TIPS ON TAMWORTH

General

  • January in Tamworth generally has a very warm climate, with temperatures ranging from 26-35C. When booking your accommodation, check they have air conditioning, and preferably a pool! If not, purchase a battery-operated hand-held fan to help cool yourself. By the way, bananas don't keep well in this climate - don't buy too many at one time!

  • With the warmer climate come the inevitable Australian mossies! You will find a can of insect repellent an essential item during your stay, and a plug-in repellent is also a good investment.

  • During the festival, Tamworth provides an excellent bus service at a very low cost. Taxis, though increased in numbers, are usually overworked during this time, so if you don't have a private/rental vehicle at your disposal, check out the bus timetable on arrival.

  • A small back-pack and "bum" bag are preferable to hand-held bags.

  • Take with you, or purchase on arrival, a small camp stool. If possible, strap it to your back-pack. With the many buskers and shows you will encounter on your walk through town you will be pleased you did!

  • When booking homestay accommodation you will be put in touch with the homeowners.  Make sure you're specific about your requirements, and that you feel comfortable with the people you're speaking to!

  •

  • While the many stalls remain open on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, most of the retail shops do not, so if you need any basic essentials make sure you get them before Saturday lunchtime!
